| Introduction
We are looking for a Senior Technical Support Engineer with 3rd line skills in VMWare, Windows2003, NT4, Exchange and ideally Veritas clustering, to work for one of the largest retailers in the UK with sales nearing £4bn and c80,000 staff.
Job specification
Working as part of a substantial support team, the role involves:
20% IT related Projects
30% Providing 3rd line technical support
50% Involved with the full lifecycle ( design, build and implementation ) of the infrastructure change programme and work on high level & detailed level infrastructure designs following technical standards as defined by the Group Server Architect.
We are looking for a technically strong candidate with excellent communication skills. As one of the technical specialists in the team, you will be expected to provide:
1) Capacity and performance management of the production environment.
2) Aid the knowledge transfer of specialist technology experience to other team members.
3) Manage server incidents through to resolution.
4) Complete work packages as assigned by the Group Server and Storage Team Leader.
5) Identify potential improvements to 3rd Line support.
6) Work closely with the Group Server Architect in relation to proposing new technical solutions and supporting technology decisions.
7) Pro-active management of patching levels relating to Wintel servers.
The successful candidate will be a proactive communicator who is well organised, methodical and conscientious. You will be an excellent team player who champions operational standards, is able to work independently when required and represent the team in a professional manner.
