| Client: market leading software company. Role & responsibilities: setup database backups and perform integrity checks. Performing database restores to test environments and set up test and UAT systems. Liaise with development departments to ensure design of database, data objects and code takes into account suitable system performance criteria. Performing archiving of data based on customer agreements. Manage and monitor transaction logfile growth. Set up of SQL Server hardware & software to meet client & performance requirements. Troubleshoot performance issues & performance tuning of SQL Server systems. Monitor & maintain indexes & foreign keys for customer systems. Set up & maintain SQL Replication on Client Servers and test rigs. Troubleshoot SQL Server problems related to SQL Replication, DTC, Security, SQL stored procedures & any other client problems. Recommend and implement improvements to SQL code & indexes as appropriate to development departments. Recommend and implement improvements to Database Server hardware configuration & database SQL Server configuration. Out of hours support as required. Essential skills: experience working in a SQL environment and dealing with SQL Server issues on a daily basis. Experience of writing & troubleshooting SQL stored procedures. Supporting users at 2nd & 3rd line support levels. Windows 2000/2003 Active Directory networking experience. Raid and/or SAN technologies. Alerting systems (NIMBUS or similar). |
